“We can throw the numbers into the biggest computing clusters the world has ever seen and let statistical algorithms find patterns where science cannot.” More on the topic at Wired.

Link: http://www.kk.org/thetechnium/archives/2008/06/the_google_way.php

Philip Glass's Sesame Street animations

I remember seeing these on Sesame Street as a kid. I hated them and was mesmerized by them. They’re pure geometry, mixed with color theory wrapped up and set to an exceedingly eerie score — particularly for a children’s program.

I think I suffered some of the same problems as the kids in this article back in school. It’s an interesting take on kids who go through “gifted and talented” programs.

Link: http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?id=the-secret-to-raising-smart-kids&print=true

As the one-time beneficiary of a so-called “gifted” education, it worries me to see all of the emphasis in public education on improving standardized test scores — there’s got to be a way to serve both over- and underachieving students

Link: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/12/26/AR2005122600553.html
